Natalie Portman flashback video: ET interview from 1994 ‘young Natalie Wood’

In 1994, Natalie Portman was a mere 13-year-old but she was already causing a buzz with her acting talents.  She had played the role of Mathilda in “The Professional” also known as Léon.  The film catapulted Natalie’s movie career and she found more success in the upcoming years.   It wasn’t Natalie’s first time acting, but it was her debut on the silver screen.  The film, and her role, met with critical praise and was well received commercially.  In a rare interview, you may see a 13-year-old Natalie Portman as she and several cast members sat for an interview with ET.

Even at 13, Natalie Portman had a certain charisma that drew you in.  Appearing in the ET interview alongside Natalie is star of “The Professional” Jean Reno, who played Léon and Danny Aiello, who played Tony.  Interestingly, Jean Reno and Danny Aiello both remarked on Natalie’s talent as an actress and pegged her for a ‘movie star.’  Jean Reno gave her the honor of being a ‘young Natalie Wood.”  Danny Aiello gave Natalie the wise counsel, “Don’t do television.  You’re a movie star.”

Natalie also revealed that she “loved Brad Pitt” and was devastated when he came to a screening of “The Professional” and she didn’t get to meet him.

Natalie described how her focus remained on her education and she said that her schooling would come first and she would do movies on the side.

Natalie Portman was true to her commitment not to sacrifice her education for the sake of fame, stardom and acting.  After graduating from public high school “Syosset High” she attended Harvard University from which she graduated.  Natalie made headlines when she told the New York Post that she’d considered leaving show business for a career.

Fox News quotes Natalie as saying, “I don’t care if college ruins my career.  I’d rather be smart than a movie star.”  Natalie Portman graduated from Harvard University on June 5, 2003 with a bachelor’s degree in psychology.

Fortunately for fans, Natalie didn’t choose one or the other; but has excelled at both.
